According to Kara Nielsen, the director of food and drink at trend forecasting firm WGSN, there's a reason why the pumpkin spice latte trend has such staying power. And the pandemic, she says, is only going to solidify its status as the It Drink of the season.

“I don’t think there will be a normal again,” says Francesca Muston, vice president of fashion content for WGSN. “Everything will be fundamentally changed.”

Hannah Craggs, senior color editor at trend-forecasting consultancy WGSN, agrees, saying, “Throughout history, color has been used as a tool of self-expression and peaceful protest.”

“The spike in interest in more casual or sporty clothes has been true of lounge- and activewear, but longer term, we’d expect this to be more about multi-functional clothing or two-mile wear,” says Francesca Muston, the VP of fashion content at the trend-forecasting company WGSN.

According to trend forecasting firm WGSN and color system company Coloro, a sister brand of WGSN, spring 2022 colors are fittingly inspired by life’s “simple and sartorial pleasures.”

“While the original athleisure trend was responsible for taking the comfortable silhouettes and performance features of sportswear out of the gym into everyday fashion, it was the global rise of streetwear that built the culture around it and made it collectible,” says Volker Ketteniss, head of menswear at trend forecasting firm WGSN.

“Its ascent to mainstream has been much more rapid than some of the other platforms,” explains Cassandra Napoli, marketing expert at trend forecaster WGSN.
