Copenhagen travel guide: explore the Danish capital ahead of Copenhagen Fashion Week
Copenhagen Fashion Week is just around the corner. Explore the Danish capital as it gears up for Fashion Week and the Copenhagen International Fashion Fair (CIFF), with our local guide Melanie Larsen.
August is one of the prime times of the year to visit Copenhagen, as key events such as Fashion Week and CIFF take place during the month. Art galleries, independent shops and innovative dining spots are buzzing with tourists and locals, in a city that holds sustainable values at its core.

Known for its high quality of life, Copenhagen is walkable and bikeable, so exploring is a pleasure. In Østerbro, the city’s greenest area, look for AMATOR, a recently opened cafe designed as a home dining space and already noted for its omelettes and full moon cakes. When it comes to eating out in the capital, the feeling of ‘hygge’ is constantly explored, whether in a fusion restaurant or at a cafe specialising in the traditional BMO (bun with cheese).
Hip eateries, Y2K vintage stores and creative spaces can be found in trendy Nørrebro. One highlight is SUPeR, a quirky bookstore and community space that offers arts and crafts workshops, varied talks and good reads.

Must-visit museums, established restaurants and premium Danish brands are mostly in the City Centre, which is home to disruptive maximalist store Henrik Vibskov Boutique and its well-known oversized silhouettes. Baum und Pferdgarten, an edgy label with unique pieces that marry colour combos and prints, also has a store in the area. Tekla is a responsible brand that specialises in making thoughtful products for the body and home.

The Danish Architecture Center and curated design shop DANSKmadeforrooms, which sells inspiring and timeless furniture, kitchenware and interior pieces, will serve art and design enthusiasts well.
